Lost power on my s2000
« on: March 12, 2022, 09:16:16 AM »
I’m a newbie and I noticed my machine wasnt lit up and running so I opened it and noticed it was making a clicking sound every 7-10 seconds and the mother board lights flashed every little bit . Just need to know where to start with troubleshooting the problem . Keep in mind I’m no electrician and new to this . Thanks in advance .

Go back in there and tell us if the clicking sound is coming from the power supply behind the reel shelf or not.

Find out EXACTLY where it's coming from.

Post a clear photo of your MPU...esp. of the area near a large green battery called the Varta battery.

We need to see if it's leaking acid onto the board.

Turn OFF the power switch before pulling it out of the tray.

That sounds like the pull handle solenoid is having issues.

Not the best photo but at least we can see that the Varta battery was removed.
You down-sized to 38.47KB when you're allowed to post as large as 1,000KB.

The MPU LED lights...is the red one lit up?

The sound from the cash box going thru a power-up mode is normal...but it's supposed to stop after the stacker unit inside of the cashbox reaches the end....pull out and re-insert the cashbox to make sure it's seated in there correctly.

I'd dis-connect the two wire harness that runs to the handle solenoid for now, as sixcardmark suggested, until the problems are corrected.

Sometimes the power supply works itself a little loose from the harness...there's a thumbscrew on the left-hand side of it that can be tightened but those are NOT reliable...they strip very easily.
With the power switch OFF, it's better just to push the large white Molex connector (on the right-hand side of the power supply) towards the left, for a better connection.
Use your other hand to push the power supply unit towards the right.

At the moment, from what you're telling us, that power supply may be questionable.
Let's at least make sure it's connected right first.

When the light hissing / buzzing noise goes off it lights up the 4 yellow and one green on mpu board for that one second . The bill acceptor never cycles

Good job with the picture...it's better anyways.

The MPU looks like one of the older 502 versions.

Do you have another S2000 cabinet to test it in?

Also...you've said you're no electrician...lol... but do you have a multimeter to test power with?

You might want to post you postal zip code....maybe there's an NLG member in your area that can come over and help ya?

Personally, I'm from 12910....I might be quite far away from ya? idk

Your heat sink is missing on that transistor on the bottom left of the pic. Near the copper choke / coil. Might overheat that little guy without it.

When you turn ON the power switch, are  there any messages showing in the blue VFD display?
If so, what is coming up in order?

When I turn it on I get nothing but the hissing / buzz ( 1 second maybe ) thats coming from the power supply . No lights , nothing other than when the buzz , the mpu lights come on ( the one second maybe ). Also , I see the denomination light barely lights when this happens. Otherwise I get nothing .

Have you checked the +13 & +25VDC outputs on your power supply?  Sounds like it's kicked the bucket to me.
