Convert to backlit?
« on: October 11, 2014, 09:48:03 PM »
Hi folks,
I've got another newbie question,
can any S2000 be converted to backlit?
I bought a Jeannie today that isn't backlit. I saw a vid on youtube with the reels backlit and of course now I want that. I see someone sells complete kits on eBay.

Thanks

Yes, they can all be converted to backlit.  You may have a backlit set of reels.  Look behind the strips to see if you have the sockets for the lights.  You may just have blown lightbulbs?  All the IDOJ machines I've ever seen have all been backlit, if yours is not, it was a conversion and the seller may not have put the backlight hardware on it.  Out of curiosity, do you hear the IDOJ spin sounds when you play the game?
If you find the site helpful, consider becoming a contributing member.  It pays for costs and keeps this site alive.  I will ignore requests for private, one-on-one help. Your questions should be posted in the appropriate forum where they may help others as well.

Thanks Rick. My reels are definitely not backlit. (No bulb hardware in them) I do hear the IDOJ spin sounds (I looked at the sound board and it looks like I have a DSV00018 Jeannie sound SIMM.

Are the bulbs for the backlit regular 12v bulb? I'd like to convert the reel bulbs to 12v led. (The same as the ones I put in the buttons....161 I believe). I ask because I fried my display board by putting in a 12v led in the denomination bulb and I am scared to used leds elsewhere.

Thanks

Backlit reel bulbs are JKL XE359's. And be careful testing LEDs in the machine, you can easily fry things. I'm sure your inner door I/O started smoking like Cheech when you tried that..

There are tons of posts on what LEDs to replace bulbs with throughout the machine, unfortunately no successful LEDs to replace the 359's in the reels (that I know of).

It was actually my display board that smoked. I bought a display and an I/O board just in case that fried too.

I found a very good thread on the old site which seems to perfectly fit the bill on what I need to do:

It seems pretty simple. My only concern is how get the reel strips over. (Never done this). Can I move the entire wheel over or do I have to move just the strip?

Thank you

You will have to remove the reel strips and put them on the backlit reels. The nonbacklit baskets are totally different. Just take your time removing the strips, you don't want to cause wrinkles or creases in them. Once they are peeled up where they meet, slightly 'round' the strip and they will come right out of the groove. Don't just pull the strips straight off flat, it'll fudge up the edges.
