The paper in a G23 ?

Was reading a post about the paper by the USB port. What does this do? I see there is a switch behind it. Thanks.

When the paper is inserted, it depresses the micro switch so it thinks the logic door is closed. When configuring, it needs to see that door open. Obviously someone has removed the thumb lock and cam from the logic door. Pretty lame "fix" IMO.

I hate the paper thing too.  Can a key/cam or something be installed to control it that way?  I’ve always been curious what it should look like.

Its a very unique cam that is sometimes refered to as a "boomerang"  They run around $15.00 through the typical suppliers.

A microswitch normally has 3 connector tabs....what if you just moved one wire to the "Normally Closed" tab on the microswitch? 
Wouldn't that eliminate the paper "cam" and fool the MPU into thinking that the Logic Door is "Closed"? :scratch-head_2:

The cam itself looks pretty easy to make...>>>

Anytime you wanted to use your ekey you would have to switch back.

Taking a 3/8 drill and drilling in a little "bat" switch works wonders as well.

I'm pretty sure I have afew of those laying around in a zip lock bag somewhere.
They were on a loop of plastic ties on some G23's that came in.
I just never knew what they were for.  :rotfl:

The cam has two functions.  One is to lock the door and close the switch at the same time.  When opened it allows the door to open so you can insert a diag/ekey and opens the switch too.  I still don't understand why it would ever be removed to begin with, but in many cases it is, and replaced with that lame ass piece of paper.

The casinos like to keep the locks as the machines are taken out of service & before they're sent to auctions.
They re-use them for the new machines replacing the old.
I often get machines in with the big ugly external ring spacers, because someone over there ordered 1-1/4" to 1-1/2"  locks instead of the correct, shorter 3/4" or 7/8" length locks.

On a slightly different note, many times the player tracking systems are still in them too.
Whichever company installs those...REALLY make a royal mess with the wiring.
They tap/splice into everything needing power or data lines from here and there to make their systems go.
No wonder the dust inside of these piles up....no one would ever stick a vacuum in there.

A drill bit and a mini switch alleviates all the hassle. Take the door off and use the switch in place of the microswitch.
