1995 S+ Large Dollar Hopper/Wheel Issue
« on: June 17, 2023, 10:44:55 AM »
Hello all, 1st post newbie here.
I've been browsing and searching the S+ section and have not found anything about my particular hopper. I apologize if this subject has already been covered.
I am having an issue with the hopper picking up Eisenhower coins at times. Everything I have read leads to worn pinwheel pins, but my wheel looks different then others I have seen. This one looks more like a bowl with nylon bumps to spin the coins around. There are areas that look like pin dowels, but they are completely flush with the wheel. My question is, are these style wheels available for replacement or are the nylon bumps available anywhere? The only identifier/sticker on the hopper says 5/95 on it.

Hello, and welcome to NLG.

 :NLG_WELCOME:

You have what is called a holly wheel hopper. The holes in that hopper are sized for the coins that it is intended to be used with. Chances are the holes are sized for a casino $1 token (or similar), and not an Eisenhower dollar coin.

You could try to find a correct sized holly wheel (probably unlikely), or switch to a traditional hopper that uses a shelf wheel.

How much play should there be with an Eisenhower dollar in one of the slots?

Thank you sunrise side,
I might need one if servicing the motor doesn't help. The seller told me you could only put 50 Eisenhowers in the hopper because the motor would overheat and shut down. I took it all apart and found the shims were installed wrong causing the armature to bind. Cleaned and serviced all I could inside the hopper. Then I dumped all my Eisenhowers (100) into the hopper to test. It dispensed about 83 of them, motor did not overheat. Now I'm wondering if I just need to put more dollars into the hopper.
