W7WPW here.  I've only had a license for about 7-8 years. 

My vanity callsign, Whiskey-Seven-Whiskey-Papa-Whiskey was chosen due to the fact that I like whiskey, and my grand children call me Papa. 
Oddly, it's easier to use the phonetics, than saying the letters.

My call also a vanity is a omage to an AM radio station that was a your typical top-40 station in the 60's - 70's in any medium market in the country. However, the station I was listening to 62-KGW in Portland, Oregon set me on a path of a semi-short (12 year) career in broadcasting.

If your check out my call K6KGW on QST you will see the whole sad story!  The station is dark, but the frequency is still in use in the PDX area.

Licensed since 1983 but never really got into low band until recently. Unfortunately my Kenwood broke and I didn't want to deal with fixing an old radio so eventually I will upgrade to something newer... with a LARGE display so my older eyes can see.
