Bally Gamemaker Board Upgrade
« on: July 24, 2024, 11:56:57 AM »
I have a Gamemaker HD with a 512 mb board that is so slow. It takes forever to load after a clear. What I am wondering is there a way to upgrade this board to make it quicker? Thanks

I PM'd the moderator. Hopefully he'll chime in soon. Sadly we don't get too many posts on the GM anymore. I love these machines. Unfortunately my issues were all quite easy so I'm of no help to you here.
But hang on!!!

I believe the Gamemaker HD is a later series after the 7000-7200 eprom based MPU. I think they might be in the 9000 or Alpha series machines but I am not 100% sure about where they fit in the Bally releases. Are you using CF cards or flash drives for your clear and game/OS install?

My gamemaker is like yours, it is based on the alpha 9000 series. I'm using a 1ghz and it does take about 15 minutes to boot. If you load less games the boot is slightly faster. I have tried more memory, nothing seems to help the long boot time.

Thanks for your reply qbert. Slowly I'm getting to know this game. I posted an error that pops up all the time when turning on the machine. If I restart a couple of times like the screen says it will eventually start and I can play some games. Doe's anybody think that is a board or OS card problem. Thanks so much. Bill

The text says Machine Fault "Memory integrity check: failure for user process at addr: 556756992, flags: 80010068, digest:0" Pretty hard to read that small print.

Do you have a 400MHz or a 1GHz MPU? A 1GHz would be quite a bit faster than 400MHz.

Mine is a 1ghz and it is still woefully slow on boot.

I had a 1Ghz processor with 1GB of memory.   I don't recall it being that slow, but maybe it was, it's been 3 - 4 years.  Gamemaker software may not even run on a 400Mhz processor?  I never tried it.

The 512mhz might not have removable memory.
Here is where they are on 1ghz board.

I finally got this problem solved. I wound up replacing the 412 board with a 1ghz board with more memory and that took care of my problem. I just needed more memory. Runs like a charm now. Thanks
