SMLD to MLD conversion on G23
« on: September 16, 2024, 08:56:12 AM »
Have a parts incomplete Version 1 g23 project.

I had an extra MLD monitor with the door frame & installed on the machine.

It appears that the power input on the mld is a 6 pin, where the existing harness in the cabinet is 9 pin.

Can anyone steer me to the correct harness to power the MLD?

Thanks

Were you able to resolve the issue? I know this is a little late but I had a similar issue with a Universal Slant come up today. The Slant had a Single layer monitor and I removed a MLD from a G23 I have and found the same issue. My single layer Kortek had the 3 Row, 9 Pin Molex with 12 and 24 volts. The MLD Kortek requires Two 24 Volt +/-. I didn't feel comfortable just splicing into the single 24 volt wire so I traced it all back to the Backplane/Distribution board (whatever it's called). My Universal Slant had a 10 Pin 2 Row Molex with three 24 volt output pins and 2 12 volt pins. I added a pair of wires to the J17 (24 Volts +/-) and ran that to a new Molex 6 pin, 2 row connector for the MLD Monitor. I felt better about adding the dedicated 24 volt +/- rather than hitching a ride with the current single pair. Attached is a snapshot of the wiring diagram but I think the diagram is mislabeled. It should be J17 and not J7. I kept the original 9 pin Molex on the end of harness in case I need them again someday.

I added the new 24 Volt +/- to Pins 7 (24 Volts +) and Pin 8 (24 volt Ground).  Pins 9 and 10 on the Molex were also 24 volts. The G23 only had a 8 Pin 2 Row configuration but the Universal Slant had 10 Pin 2 Row which appears to have an additional 24 volt pair. I don't know what type of male connector is on the Kortek but it didn't fit that well mated to the Molex 6 Pin. At least it's latched.

The monitor didn't smoke (yet anyway). You know what they say about smoke, once it comes out, you can't put it back in.

A member of as nice enough to find the harness for me.

Tested monitor, and it is working.

Still a little tricky in that the cabinet is V1, and my mld door is V2.

The led lights around the cash out button are the issue.   I may take off the button assembly from my V1 door and swap.

Also missing  piece of the door trim on the v2 door.

But getting close to done!  Fun project!

I found the issue with the power connector on the monitor. The connector appeared to be a Molex but it's not. The Connector is a TE Connectivity / AMP. Molex crimp pins won't work in these connectors, you need to use the TE/AMP female crimp pins.
I couldn't sleep knowing the connector wasn't fitting well so I found the correct connector.
In case someone else needs the part number

Mouser #:571-1721681
Mfr. #: 172168-1
Mfr.:TE Connectivity / AMP

I’m pretty much finished with this machine.

The monitor wiring going from smld V1 to a mld v2 door required a bit of creativity as the previous poster mentioned.

The door closure is still a bit tricky-  the v2 door has a screwed in metal stopper that pushes on the main door Cherry switches.

This had to be removed as it is not compatible with v1 spacing.

I put a temporary push plate in its place that works,  but need a more permanent solution.
