DBV-45 on a IGT S+
« on: June 07, 2015, 12:23:07 PM »
I have an S+ with a DBV-45 that seems to have no power, nothing is happening, no lights....nothing. I know its an old bill validator but I want to see if I can at least get it working. Any help would be appreciated. I noticed there is a micro switch on the right side of the cash can drawer but nothing seems to engage it, is this normal ? Thx

traced the wiring power supply fuse was blown, replaced the fuse and it popped instantly. Looks like I need a new power supply.

Was the DBV-45 unplugged from the power supply when you tried the second fuse and it blew? If not, the short could be in the DBV-45, right?

If it is the power supply that is bad they are available from many sources, does it look like this one:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/IGT-SPLUS-BILL-ACCEPTOR-POWER-SUPPLIE-/261911489835?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cfb242d2b

The switch near the cash can might be for the machine to sense when someone opens the cash can compartment or removes the cash box, that is a typical casino precaution. Probably doesn't have anything to do with the bill validator. If the removable cash box is gone or there are no wires going to that switch or no lock cam to activate it then someone before you might have removed something to eliminate nuisance faults, that is often done for home use. A photo of that switch and the surrounding area would let the experts here know for sure what's going on with it.

On the other hand, if you have to buy parts to fix it, why not get a DBV200 or WBA12 or 13 and have better options for newer bill redemption? Granted, neither one will accept better than a new 5, but the DBV45 was abandonded by the manufacturer a long time ago. Just sayin'...

And just for buyers knowledge, I believe a WBA12 or 13 is the best you can get as far as compatability and ability for mewer bills

Yes that is the exact one, any where else to get them except Ebay ? And when I reinstalled it I just hooked up the 120v input only and it blew right away.

What cowboygames says is true, if you do get the original DBV-45 setup working by simply replacing the power supply (if that is what's bad) then your bill validator will only accept $1 bills. All the other bills have been changed to newer designs and the DBV-45 will not accept them since I don't think it has newer software available to work with the new bills.

I'm pretty sure the places that sell slot machines parts often have that power supply for sale, although the price can vary quite a bit. The one on ebay for $10 looks like a lower than average price to me. And there are probably folks right here on NLG that have it or know where to get one. Just give a shout-out that you want one. Another place would be the various slot businesses on NLG home page, also places like Rudy's. You can probably try doing a google search for search phrase like "s+ power supply" or "igt bill validator power supply", etc. You'll get some power supplies that come up that are the main machine power supply, have to sift thru looking for the one that's just for the bill validator. If you try Rudy's they don't always list their entire inventory online, may need to contact them and specifically ask for an "IGT S+ bill validator power supply".

In that case you will want to get a list of the parts needed for the WBA conversion and go from there. The IGT S+ experts here can guide you on that, it is a fairly popular upgrade that people do.

Some people don't mind keeping an older bill validator and inserting the $1 as needed, especially if it's a nickel machine or mostly for the grandkids to play on. But for higher denomination use having $1 only can be a pain.

thanks my game chip was SP1160 and got this bad boy running 95% now. Only problem left is I can seem to get the DBV-45-SS to work, seems to be dead, no light..... nothing. I did go into the settings and the bill validator is set on and set to 37 for US bills. Is there a chip in these like the wba's ??

Yes, there is an eprom in there that can be reprogrammed or replaced, but unfortunately I'm pretty sure there aren't any software updates from JCM new enough to allow the DBV-45 to use the new style bills. So unless you had some of the old style small-head $5, $10 and $20 bills the DBV-45 would only accept the $1.

Buzz would tell us to remove that DHV-45 and thrown it in the garbage to solve the problem...but since we are no longer to enhpjoy his posts, maybe check out the Archives for some tips on what you can do to get this one running as best you can. Bottom line is the newest bill they ca make is Us $10 (colored) or US $5 (colored).

The simplest thing you could do is replace that power supply if that's what's shorted and upgrade to a dbv 200.  I think the 200 at least takes the new $20 if I remember correctly (it's been a while) but that wouldn't require any other hardware besides the head.  The best option for sure is to go to WBA.  Your harnessing will change too so make sure you have the right plug on the back of the WBA housing.

Yes, and bless his heart,

Agreed. If the WBA upgrade costs more than the OP wants to spend on the machine I'd do the DBV-200 upgrade as a backup choice. The DBV-200 is fairly easy to find for a decent price and it is reliable. The cost for this upgrade would likely be lower and easier to accomplish than the WBA upgrade, just need a good working DBV-200 in place of the DBV-45 and the replacement power supply. This would let you use some of the new style bills in the machine and for home use that might be just fine.

The positives for doing a WBA upgrade would be that it would match the other machines he owns so would make it handier for any troubleshooting that comes up, making life simpler is a good thing. Plus the WBA offers future update possibilities if newer design bills are released, the DBV models won't be getting any newer software. EDIT - see comment below, no more software updates for WBA-12/13 models.

The last software release from JCM for the DBV-200 in ID-023 was dated August 2006. Below is the software document describing the bills and features it covers:

Just a side note, the WBA 12/13 is no longer supported for software upgrades. They cut it off either last year or in 2013 and I'm not sure that the newest 100's weren't the last support they provided

Would it be fair to say that the last WBA 12/13 software update probably included some new style bills that an updated DBV-200 doesn't? I didn't look it up but seems likely since the WBA model is newer than the last DBV update in 2006??

Kind of guessing here but I believe the 200 only went to the last new $5, might have been earlier though. Blueridge or one of those other dealers would have a more precise answer I'm sure. The info was on the old site at some point also
