Bally Alpha Bezel Lights
« on: December 14, 2015, 05:20:49 PM »
I have a Alpha Winning Times. The bezel lights have never come on when playing and winning.
They do work when I go to test them. Is there something I'm missing in set up?

What kind of bill acceptor do you have? Did it ever work before? Did you double check all connectors to it?
I've never set up an Alpha but I'll try helping with some common troubleshooting stuff...and hope another member smarter than me will chime in.

I'm referring to the lights around the reels and the top screen. They work when I put in test mode but have never come on while playing. The machine is new to me so I don't know if they ever worked.

Is it a 14 button deck? When you did the set up, did you pick the proper one and save the choice? I'm reading this from an old thread with the same issue.

That game only turns on the bezel leds in the top two winning combinations.  Otherwise, they will never light up since it doesn't even have a bonus stage. I highly recommend you get a different kit if you want to sell that machine.

I found this on the newlifegames.net archive site. I also didn't scroll to read more in that section. If I had, I would have known what rickhunter said!

I checked the deck set up and all was good.
I'll look around for a decent game and change it out.

Thanks

If the bezels light up during diagnostics, there's nothing wrong.   Any quick hit title I would think would be a better bet. There are a few on e-bay that would fit the 15" top alpha you have.

Like Rick said, the lighting effects depend on the game. The original Quick Hit title (Blazing 7s, Black Gold Wild, Black & White 7s, Stars & Bars) are kinda boring when it comes into the lighting department - B7s only lights up when you get a huge win or a progressive. The newer versions of Quick Hit (Wild Blue, Wild Red, Starlight Fire, White Fire, Amber Rays, etc) have the chasining lights in the bonus rounds and multi color lights when a progressive is hit, and the top bar lights change color in the bonus.

Upgrade your machine to a 1gig board and you can run the newer games which go nuts with the lighting effects. The best one I have seen to date is Butterfly Bonanza and Acorns Fortune. Add a Super Candle and an upgraded (09) Lighting Controller to your S9000 and you'll be in lighting heaven!...lol I am!!

Almost every reel game Bally has released to date is compatible with an Alpha 1 (1gig board). The new Double Dragon which has multicolor reel projector lights may be Alpha 2 exclusive... not sure as I have not come across the software.

 :I_agree_1:
Acorns Fortune, Diamond Peak and any of the Bulls-eye games like Cherry Red, Golden Flash and Black Star are all hard to beat. On these games, the reels stay lit 100% of the time then flicker on a win and the audio is much better than the old Alpha 1 titles. My wife loves our Acorns Fortune.

I just picked up a Double Dragon, and a Wild Rose.. These are my first Bally Alphas.. Looking forward to getting them finished. Still learning how to program and set them up..

I have an Alpha 1 5 reel cabinet with the 1 gig board.  I would love to find one of those kits that keeps the reel lights on all the time, and a cool light show.  Hopefully one of those previously mentioned titles will show up for sale.  Had Hee Haw in there too long, it does not do much with the bezel lights either.

LASLOTS had Acorns Fortune and the butterfly clone on there last week. Must have sold. Keep an eye out for them as they sold out and put more on there.  I bought the Acorn one and it's a Bullseye Bonus style bonus with a twist. Where ever the Acorn lands, that the stack it will collect on until you get 4 of them. Then the reel turns wild. Very surprised by this one. Still no Cherry Red but a good game.

Bally calls it a "Stacked Wilds" feature. It's pretty cool when it locks several of the reels in the stacked wild position during the bonus spins. Diamond Peak also has the Stacked Wilds.
